in oil painting at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Massachusetts,

of her paintings. She particularly enjoys painting shore birds.
Most recently, her painting of a preening egret won an outstanding

Book of the Month Club.
Sarah also has designed whimsical stuffed animals
and women's wear. Her creations have been featured in numerous magazines,
including House Beautiful, Town and Country, Mademoiselle and Vogue.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Everyone seems to say that artists have to write a
statement about why they paint. That seemed impossible to me until
a dear friend asked me that question. This was my response to her:
I really believe that God made me to paint; it's almost
as if I have no choice. Something deep inside me wants to be said,
and painting seems to be the venue that's been laid before me. Sometimes
I feel touched by my paintings; at other times I feel inadequate
to express those deep, passionate words.
For me the words are expressed in light, shape and
color. I seem to want to touch that small place in each person that
is still vulnerable, not slick and cool. I don't think I paint for
myself so much as to cry out the glory of God's creation - the beauty
of light falling on a shoulder, illuminating for a moment the beauty
of man; the stillness of water; the grace of a bird. These things
move me immeasurably. My wish is to capture something of this so
that the one seeing might be moved, perhaps even to tears.
